DID YOU KNOW ... by Jason Martinez posted 6/03/08 ... that Kevin Kouzmanoff has 7 HR's and 18 RBI's in 29 games at Petco this season. Last season, he hit 5 HR's and knocked in 32 runs in 71 games played at Petco. ... that Jake Peavy, Chris Young, Greg Maddux, and Randy Wolf have a combined 2.17 ERA in 20 starts at Petco Park. Remarkably, their combined record is only 7-5 in those games. You can thank the offense and the bullpen for that. ... that Tadahito Iguchi is batting just .176 against left-handed pitchers this season. He's a career .255 hitter against lefties. ... that closer Trevor Hoffman has never blown more than seven saves in a season, never lost more than seven games, and has had an ERA over 3.00 just three times in 15 career major league seasons. In '08, he's blown three, lost four, and has an ERA of 5.68. I will reserve judgement on this future Hall of Famer until after the season is over. The guy is mentally tough and could go the rest of the season without blowing a save. ... that Michael Barrett has batted .218 with 0 HR's, 16 RBI's, 5 BB's, and 27 K's since being acquired by San Diego last season. Padre catchers are batting .185 on the season with 0 HR's, 11 RBI's, and 46 K's. If this were the AL, the pitcher would be in the lineup and the DH would be used for the catcher. ... in seven combined innings between AAA Portland and San Diego, reliever Carlos Guevara has not given up a run and struck out seven, while allowing just two hits and one walk. ... that Adrian Gonzalez is batting .298 with 8 HR's and 25 RBI's since his brother, Edgar, was called up to the team on May 12th. ... that pitchers Mike Adams, Josh Banks, and Bryan Corey, who all made their Padre debuts in May, are a combined 3-0 with a 1.14 ERA in 39.1 innings pitched with 11 walks and 27 strikeouts. ... that Khalil Greene has been among the least productive shortstops in all of baseball with an OPS (combined OBP and SLG PCT) of just .573. The only three shortstops with a lower OPS and a significant amount of playing time are Colorado's Troy Tulowitzki, who will miss most of the season with an injury, Los Angeles' backup Chin-lung Hu, and Kansas City's Tony Pena. Not surprisingly, Greene leads all shortstops in strikeouts with 58. |
